The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants has claimed responsibility for the deadly suicide bomb attack on Shiite mosque in Qatif Province of Saudi Arabia on Friday.
The group's statement on the attack which killed at least 21 people and wounded dozens, was read aloud on its radio station, al-Bayan on Friday night and posted Saturday morning to militant websites associated with the extremists, identifying the suicide bomber as Saudi citizen Abu Amer al-Najdi and publishing his picture therewith. The statement identified the attack as being carried out by a new branch in "Najd Province," and also said that "the soldiers of the Caliphate" were behind Friday's attack by a suicide bomber "who detonated an explosives belt" in the mosque in the Shia-majority city of Qatif.
