TWIN BOMB BLAST DISRUPTS WEDDING PROGRAMME IN BORNO STATE

BREAKING NEWS: AKINWUMI ADESINA ELECTED AfDB PRESIDENT

Nigeria's outgoing Minister of Agriculture, Akinwumi A. Adesina, has been elected as the new President of the African Development Bank (AfDB). The 55 year old Forbes 2013 African of theyear will succeed Rwanda's Donald Kaberuka who has served two consecutive terms, have been at the helms of affairs since 2005 when he was first elected.
The Nigerian Agric. Minister beat the Finance Ministers of Chad and Cape Verde and garnered a total of 58.10 percent after six rounds of votes at the ongoing Annual General Meeting of the Bank in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.
Adesina enjoyed a wide support for his election, including that of the incoming president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, who not only openly supported him but also sent former vice president Atiku Abubakar round the continent to canvass for him.

COUNCIL CHAIR PROMISES TO PAY MARRIAGE EXPENSES OF SERVING NYSC MEMBERS

Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara state has pledged to finance the marriage of any serving female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member that marries a man from the council area and 20 per cent of marriage expenses of any male NYSC member that marries a lady from the area.

The chairman of the council, Alhaji Alhassan Bagudu, made the pledge on Wednesday in Kaiama while receiving the 2015 Batch “A” corps members posted to the council saying that the gesture is to foster unity in the country in line with the objectives of the NYSC scheme.

In addition, the council boss said the local government would set up a farm for the corps members serving in the area to enhance food production in the area which consists of essentially farmers.
Bagudu said he had directed the Secretary to the Local Government to acquire land for an immediate take-off of the projects, which would serve as their community service.

He said the department of agriculture had been directed to provide the corps members with tractors and other farm equipment needed for cultivation of
various crops, roots and tubers.

“I have to tell you that you are `corpers of change, corpers of destiny because you are coming at a time that change is about to happen.
“I was a corps member like you some years back. So, feel free to come to me for anything,” he said,
The chairman guaranteed the safety of the NYSC members in the council.

With just few hours to the end of his administration, President Goodluck Jonathan signed six bills recently passed by the National Assembly into law. These include the Tobacco Control Bill 2015, the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency Act 2015, the Equipment and Leasing Bill 2015,  AMCON (Amendment) Bill 2015; Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) Bill 2015, and the National Sugar Development (Amendment) Bill 2015.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, said it was to ensure that all government businesses were concluded.

FUEL SCARCITY: FUEL SAVING TIPS FOR DRIVERS


As the fuel scarcity bites harder and many so-called multinational companies are applying cost-cutting measures to beat the cost of operation, I have extracted these tips from Steve Huntingford of the UK Telegraph on how drivers and car owners can save fuel, thereby limiting cost.

FUEL SCARCITY: MORE BANKS ANNOUNCE EARLY CLOSURE




Earlier we told you of the cost-cutting measure being put in place by many multinational companies in the face of the economic hardship caused by the persistent fuel scarcity. A number of financial institutions have joined in the race of 'early closure' to conserve available fuel (majorly diesel) used in rendering services to customers. Top on the list include First Bank, Access Bank,Fidelity Bank and First City Monument Bank (FCMB). See the messages to their customers after the cut.
