BREAKING NEWS: AKINWUMI ADESINA ELECTED AfDB PRESIDENT

Nigeria's outgoing Minister of Agriculture, Akinwumi A. Adesina, has been elected as the new President of the African Development Bank (AfDB). The 55 year old Forbes 2013 African of theyear will succeed Rwanda's Donald Kaberuka who has served two consecutive terms, have been at the helms of affairs since 2005 when he was first elected.
The Nigerian Agric. Minister beat the Finance Ministers of Chad and Cape Verde and garnered a total of 58.10 percent after six rounds of votes at the ongoing Annual General Meeting of the Bank in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.
Adesina enjoyed a wide support for his election, including that of the incoming president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, who not only openly supported him but also sent former vice president Atiku Abubakar round the continent to canvass for him.
