The embattled National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Muazu has stepped down. He submitted his resignation letter earlier today in Abuja, citing health reasons for his decision. His resignation, which takes immediate effect, has been received by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. Known in the political circle as "The game changer", Mr Muazu has been under intense pressure to quit his position as the party's chairman following the its poor performance in the March and April 2015 general elections which saw the PDP losing out to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Muazu took over the leadership of the party last year from Mr Bamanga Tukur who stepped down under intense party crisis.
In another development, the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, has taken over the chairmanship position in acting capacity pending the appointment of a new chairman, according to a statement from the party's National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh. He said "In line with the PDP Constitution, the Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has taken over as the acting national chairman of PDP pending his replacement from the northeast geo-political zone."
Also, there are indications that the  PDP Board of Trustee chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, has also been asked to resign by the president.
