There was a fresh bomb eplosion in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state in Northern Nigeria. The blast occurred in a crowded area along the popular Baga Road part of the northeastern city.
The blast occured in a usually crowded areavery close to one Maikore Oil filling station in Baga Road at about 5:30pm Nigerian time according to eyewitnesses, though the number of casualties from the blast which is yet to be ascertained.
This would be the fourth in a series of bomb and grenade attacks launched by the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents in Maiduguri since Friday when Muhammadu Buhari was inaugurated Nigeria's president, an event where the President described the group as "godless" and "mindless" in his inaugural speech.
Early on Saturday, the militants launched an attack with rocket-propelled grenades that was repelled by the military but hours later a suicide bomber killed 26 at a city mosque.
Early on Tuesday, there was heavy shelling from generator powered propellers at the outskirts of the city followed up by another suicide attack at a cattle market in which dozens were killed.
One mechanic, who asked not to be identified, told AFP: "I had just gone to get water when the explosion happened. I would have been among the victims.
"The garage was full with colleagues who were chatting at the time. I'm afraid we may lose many of our friends."
